What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is a non-invasive treatment method. It can boost the self-repair function and reduce damage to our body. By restoring the self-repair function, one’s recovery can be facilitated, and pain symptoms can be relieved.

What is the difference between physical therapy and chiropractic therapy?

Both are conservative treatment methods which are non-invasive and drug-free. Specialised treatments will be practised to relieve pain symptoms of muscles and joints. They differ in:

1. Chiropractors are independent of the traditional medical system
2. Chiropractors specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neurological and muscular systems.
3. Chiropractors practise chiropractic manipulations to treat pain symptoms.
4. No doctor referral is needed for chiropractors.

How long will it take for me to get better?

While treatment length varies from person to person, there are a few rules of thumb you can follow. Newer injuries, if treated appropriately and immediately, tend to respond quickly and to fewer visits assuming that major tissue injury has not occurred. Many of these first-time injuries can be effectively managed in as little as 3 or 4 visits. Conditions that have been present for greater than 3 months and chronic, recurring conditions generally take longer to recover from and full resolution can take 20 visits or more. The best way to determine how long your treatment will take is to schedule a consultation and examination. It is important to remember that chronic, recurring conditions tend to respond more slowly to treatment and take longer for full resolution. Waiting for your symptoms to resolve on their own may work temporarily but it is important to address the underlying issues that are causing your recurrent symptoms.
