Disc herniation introduction:
Disc is found in between vertebras which serve as a shock absorber. When the disc is hurt and prolapsed, disc herniation is developed.
Chiropractic adjustment: by means of lever concept in biomechanics, chiropractor can restore the disc displacement by proper manipulation techniques.
Chiropractic F & D spinal traction machine: F & D Technique can apply traction force, releases and twisting force on sites of disc herniation, help fix the disc displacement.
Physiotherapy: short wave diathermy, heat treatment, lumbar traction, interferential therapy would be used for muscle relaxation and symptomatic relief.
TENS: domestic use for symptomatic relief.
Contrast bath: heat and cold treatment could be used alternatively for pain control. Heat treatments are hot bath, hot pack, etc. to promote blood circulation and release muscle spasm; cold treatment is mainly for pain control.
Surgical operation: if symptoms are severe, prolapsed disc segment can be removed by surgical means. However, spinal fusion may be indicated if complications exist post-operatively.
