Back Pain

Symptoms: severe pain over the back which may radiate down to the hip, leg and feet. If nerve roots are compressed by prolapsed tissues, more severe symptoms like sciatica, incontinence and lower limb muscles atrophy would be encountered.

Consequence: disc herniation, ITB abrasion syndrome, piriformis syndrome, etc.

Causes: usually caused by improper posture or trauma. For example, heavy lifting with trunk forward bending posture. Long term high-heeled shoes wearing, obesity and improper sitting posture would also give rise to the development of back pain.

Back pain introduction:
Spine consists of vertebras. If the vertebras are displaced and the spinal nerve roots are irritated, pain and lower limb numbness would be reported.

Literatures compare the effects of different treatment methods, including medications, electrical therapy, surgical operations, acupuncture and spinal adjustments. Results show that the treatment effect of spinal adjustment is the best and the most long-lasting.

Chiropractic F & D 3D spinal traction machine: F & D 3D can apply traction force, releases and twisting force on the spine, help fix the spinal displacement.

Medications: NSAIDs

Supplements: glucosamine sulphate is one of the nutrition supplements which is necessary for our body to produce cartilages. Research articles show that glucosamine sulphate can reduce the abrasion of the cartilages. It can also minimize the imflammatory response and speed up the self-recovery process. Chondroitin sulphate is directly absorbed into the cartilage and facilitates its growth.

Physiotherapy: short wave diathermy, heat treatment, lumbar traction, interferential therapy would be used for muscle relaxation and symptomatic relief.

TENS: domestic use for symptomatic relief.

Contrast bath: heat and cold treatment could be used alternatively for pain control. Heat treatments are hot bath, hot pack, etc. to promote blood circulation and release muscle spasm; cold treatment is mainly for pain control.

Surgical operation: surgical intervention is indicated if symptoms persist and disturb daily living to a great extent.
